The Port of Portland’s Media Relations team works with news organizations to keep everyone informed of what’s happening at our airports, marine terminals, and business and industrial parks, as well as situations that involve Port of Portland Police and Portland Airport Fire and Rescue. It's important to us to share how we’re engaging with our community.

Within this media guide, you’ll find answers to the questions we’re asked most often, as well as resources that are available 24/7.

Although many of our operational areas are closed to the general public because of security, safety, and operational concerns, the pre-security areas of PDX are open to the public. We also offer media escorts at our facilities and properties, when possible.

The inbox is monitored between 8:00am and 5:00pm PT on weekdays and during active incidents, when our Incident Response page will also be updated with official statements. All other inquiries are typically responded to within one to two business days.

PDX Media FAQ

Yes, members of the media should park in the short-term parking garage.

Pull a ticket when entering the parking garage and show your media credentials to the attendant when exiting the property to have the ticket validated.

For news vehicles taller than eight feet that cannot clear the parking garage, limited spots are available on the outer roadway by valet.

Because of the many partner agencies and tenants on-site at PDX, we may not be able to provide details on an event that occurs at PDX.

In this case, we will defer to one of our partners for further statements. Here are a few of the most common referrals:

Media have access to the public areas of PDX, including the ticket lobby, but please notify media@portofportland.com ahead of filming.

There is a designated media area outside the B/C security checkpoint, but media are currently allowed to set up elsewhere in the ticket lobby to minimize construction-related congestion.

If setting up outside the designated media area, please be mindful not to interfere with airport operations or the traveler experience.

The PIO and/or airport operations have the right to restrict media activity at any location on airport premises, if there are public security, safety, or operational concerns.

We do our best to accommodate commercial photography/filming requests. A permit is required when we are able to do so.

We do not allow filming in areas where there are security, safety or operational concerns. Any requests to film on tenant-leased spaces (e.g. airline ramps) need to be approved by the tenant.

Two public areas offer views of the runway:

  1. The top floors of all three parking garages are open-air and have clear views of the runway.
  2. The parking lot on Air Cargo Road, just west of the entrance to the Cell Phone Waiting Lot, is adjacent to the airfield fence and has a partial view of the south runway. Media and plane spotters are permitted to be outside of their vehicles in this lot, but please stay next to your car and clear of the construction staging area.
